IMPORT-
Long time from the import end, but I have been watching stuff, i really have. The last two weeks the DAILY SHOW and COLBERT REPORT have been must watch with the conventions. It makes me excited to watch this show in the next couple months as well as the SNL Weekend Update that will be airing Thursday nights this fall.
Also been watching some of the talk shows depending on the guests. Craig Ferguson had Jonathan Winters on to which i was suprised becasuse I have not seen him on anything in a while. Being very young I remember him on Mork and Mindy and he really stuck out in my mind. He never made it huge in the movies or Tv, but he was a fav guest on Carson, Allen, and Paar talk shows. He was a first introduction to improv and massive amounts of characters and voices which was something I gravitated to. If you get the chance watch whatever u can of him. Some videos are on youtube.
Watched PINEAPPLE EXPRESS yesterday and it went in the 'meh' category much like Tropic Thunder. It in my opinion isn't bad, but just didn't impress me or make me laugh all that much. And this in particular was a 45 minute movie stretched to 90 mins. And in the end it felt like it had a lot of good pieces but didnt connect them in the right way. Seemed like they rested on it being a pot movie and left the comedy really slow. Went it picked up it was much more entertaining. Danny McBride was the best thing about this movie, he played 'Red'. Really been struggling for a good comedy lately. I can't help but keep thinking that Tropic Thunder was basically a bit of a rip off of THREE AMIGOS which lessens it to me. I have not seen FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, but I think the last really funny movie I've seen was last fall with SUPERBAD. Anyone know of something I'm missing?
EXPORT-
Had a great GIFT sketch rehearsal on Friday. Came in with some pitches and worked on some stuff from the last several weeks. Should be a great experience as from week to week we are going to have to update materials. Halloween stuff, and Election things will be out of date for example when we get past those days.
Also been working on some new scenes for the pilot. I basically threw everything out that I had because it was just too slow and long. Had a callback this week from a audition I had in June. For Centennial Wireless for sort of spokesman gig. Two spots, and non union, but still good stuff. The clients were in the room, and they seemed to enjoy my performance but sometimes u can't really tell because they just are being nice. Later in the afternoon I did get a call saying I was on their final list. I have not found out yet, but I'm guessing I will on Monday. Also got a call for a Healthy Choice spot filming in LA and directed by the director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Maybe I can ride some streak of luck.
Also this week Rolling Stone is doing it's comedy issue. Check it out.
